Vol. 262 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation Fertilisers.

40.

asked the Minister for Lands whether a consignment of fertilisers amounting to 1,500 tons was recently purchased by the Forestry Division of his Department in Connemara, County Galway; and whether tenders were invited by public notice for the supply of the fertilisers.

A contract was placed in March, 1972, with a County Galway firm for the supply of 1,500 tons approximately of fertiliser to various forests in Counties Clare, Galway and Mayo. The contract was placed by the controller of Stores, Department of Posts and Telegraphs, which is the central purchasing department for the public service.

Tenders were not invited by public advertisement, but, in accordance with normal practice, invitations to tender were sent to all known distributors of fertilisers in the country. In addition, tenders were invited from local traders in the vicinity of the forests for which the fertiliser was required.
