Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Irish-Speaking School.

39.

asked the Minister for Education the present position concerning the provision of an all-Irish-speaking school in Ballymun, Dublin.

The position in relation to Ballymun is that last year two classes for children whose parents wished them to receive instruction through Irish were provided in prefabricated classrooms in connection with one of the existing national schools. This was a temporary arrangement pending the erection of a permanent school building. This permanent building is now being provided within a short distance of Ballymun. It was erected specially for the children who were being housed in the prefabricated classrooms and for others whose parents might wish them to receive instruction through Irish. This in my Department's view was the proper arrangement as the question of space apart from anything else would have ruled out the full development of an all-Irish school on the site occupied by the prefabricated classrooms which was merely part of the site of another national school.

Coiste Tuismitheoirí Bhaile Munna and the manager of the new school are having discussions in relation to the enrolment of pupils from the Ballymun parish in the school.

Can I take it from the Minister's reply that the parents of children living in the Ballymun area who want their children taught through Irish will have such facility available to them from September onwards?

Yes, in the new building we are making available at Glasnevin.
