When the Department of Labour was set up and the employment exchanges were assigned to the new Department the Government decided that the question of the eventual return of the benefit-paying function to the Department of Social Welfare should be a matter for arrangement between the two Ministers concerned.
Discussions between the two Departments regarding the return of the benefit-paying functions have commenced. Consultation with the staff associations will take place and, in fact, representations have already been received from some of the associations.
