Vol. 262 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Hazards.

149.

andDr. O'Connell asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of serious disquiet being expressed by the residents of Bunting Road, Walkinstown, Dublin with regard to lack of traffic islands and the speed of cars passing through the area which have resulted in serious injuries being caused to a child; and if his Department will investigate the matter.

I have seen newspaper reports of protests by residents of Bunting Roard regarding traffic conditions on the road. The provision of traffic control devices is a matter for the local authority acting with the consent or at the request of the Garda commissioner. There are no proposals before my Department from the local authority in connection with Road Fund expenditure on such devices at Bunting Road.

The enforcement of speed limits is a function of the Garda. I am accordingly having the representations of the Deputies brought to the notice of the local authority and of the Garda commissioner.
