Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

134.

asked the Minister for Labour whether it is proposed to relate redundancy payments payable to workers in companies which have been the subject of mergers or takeovers to the capital gain made on the stock exchange arising from such mergers or takeovers.

The Redundancy Payments Acts of 1967 and 1971 lay down the basis for computing payments due to persons who become redundant under the provisions of these Acts. There is no proposal under consideration to revise the basis of computation in the way indicated by the Deputy.
