Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Legislation.

39.

asked the Minister for Health the legislation he is preparing on social health and medical matters in preparation for this country's entry to EEC.

I have interpreted the Deputy's question in the broadest sense, as applying over the range of my responsibilities as Minister for Health. This country's accession to the EEC involves the introduction of measures controlling the marketing of branded pharmaceuticals and regulating the use of additives in food processing. It will also be necessary to provide for the making available of health services in certain circumstances for migrant workers and dependants of migrant workers.

In so far as existing legislation is not adequate for these purposes, the European Communities Bill, 1972, at present before the House will, when enacted, provide the necessary powers.
