Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Social Insurance System.

117.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he intends to introduce amending legislation concerning the eligibility for social insurance of clergymen and members of religious communities.

The question of extending the social insurance system to persons in Holy Orders and other ministers of religion and those living in religious communities can only be considered in the context of a general extension of social insurance to persons other than employees. Until all the problems involved in such a general extension have been examined, I will not be in a position to indicate whether legislation in this matter will be introduced.
