Vol. 263 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Service Pay.

22.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the lowest adult basic rates of pay for unskilled, semi-skilled, clerical, secretarial, technical, scientific and other auxiliary workers in the hospital service; and whether he is taking steps to improve these rates of pay having regard to the cost of living.

The information in the form requested by the Deputy is not available. The rates of pay for some of the grades mentioned are traditionally related to local rates and can vary from place to place.

There are the normal processes available to hospital staff for negotiating improvements in wages and other conditions of service and these are availed of to the full. It will be appreciated that any improvements made would have to conform with the terms of the National Agreement.
