Vol. 263 No. 3

Written Answers. - Wife's Social Welfare Allowance.

447.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if there is an allowance available to a wife who has to give up working to care for her sick husband.

In the circumstances as stated no specific allowance would appear to be payable. Cases of need fall to be dealt with by the appropriate public assistance authority—in effect, the relevant health board or county council. If the husband were entitled to disability benefit it would of course include an increase in respect of his wife.
