Vol. 263 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Agricultural Workers' Committee.

146.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries by whom Ireland will be represented on the joint EEC committee for agricultural workers' social problems.

Appointments to this committee, which advises the EEC Commission on social questions affecting paid agricultural workers, are made by the Commission on the basis of proposals received from a number of international farmers' and workers' organisations acting at Community level. Member states have no function in the matter.

What provision is being made to have Ireland represented on this committee?

I have no direct function in this matter since appointment to this body is a matter for the Commission itself but I should imagine that the appropriate trade union would make the necessary contacts. If they want clarification of the implications of it they should apply to the Department of Agriculture.
