Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Irish Speaking Schools.

84.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the closure of the all-Irish school in Ballymun, Dublin; what steps he will take to provide all-Irish education for children in Ballymun; and whether he is aware that Ballymun satellite town represents a population of 25,000/30,000 people and that plans are in existence for further building in that area.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question on the subject on 11th July last. The new school in Glasnevin referred to in that reply has been in operation since 1st July, 1972, and a number of pupils from Ballymun are attending it.

85.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons for the poor condition of the infant Irish-speaking school at Marlborough St., Dublin which caused the parents to withdraw their children from classes there.

Works of improvements and re-decoration which were undertaken in the case of this school during the course of the summer vacation had not been completed at the date of the re-opening of the school. It was decided in accord with the wishes of representatives of the parents, that the school should remain closed for a further three weeks to enable the work to be brought to completion as speedily as possible. The work was completed during that further period.
