Vol. 263 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Private Harbours and Jetties.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is customary to expend public moneys in the construction or repair of private harbours and jetties or other marine works.

Public moneys are not expended on the construction, improvement or repair of harbours, jetties or other marine works except where such structures can be freely used by the public and where the work involved is for the benefit of the public.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say whether the work referred to by Deputy Blaney was for the benefit of the public?

Deputy Blaney has not referred to any specific work.

In the Deputy's use of the word "customary" there seems to be an innuendo that this was done in one particular case.

If Deputy Blaney were here he could ask that question and I could then look into the matter but I do not know what he is talking about.

There seems to be something behind it.
