Vol. 263 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Claimants.

5.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be given on an old age pension claim by a person (name supplied) in County Galway; and the reason for the delay.

A decision on an appeal in this case awaits production of evidence that a deed of transfer of the claimant's holding has been duly stamped and lodged for registration.

6.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that a person (name supplied) in County Offaly who applied for an old age pension in May, 1972, has had no decision on or investigation into her claim despite many representations; if he will indicate the present position in the matter and, having regard to her poor circumstances, if he will authorise immediate payment of pension and arrears.

According to my Department's records the claim in this case was received on 3rd October, 1972. It is at present under investigation and on completion of the necessary inquiries will be submitted to the local pension committee for decision.

7.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why an old age pension was reduced in the case of a person (name supplied) in County Galway; and if it is intended to restore the amount to its former level.

Pension in this case was reduced by decision of an appeals officer as a result of an increase in the pensioner's means following the receipt by him of his share of a deceased relative's estate. If at any time there is in fact a reduction in his means it will be open to him to make application for an increased pension.
