Vol. 263 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tractor Safety Frames.

338.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state further to a reply of 12th February 1969 (a) the number of tractors known to his Department to have been fitted with safety frames having regard to the road traffic regulations: and (b) the number of tractors not so fitted.

The regulations require safety frames to be fitted to tractors used in public places which were registered for the first time since 1st September, 1970. Up to 30th September, 1972, the latest date for which statistics are available, 13,747 tractors have been so registered. As regards other tractors, farmers have been frequently advised by way of publicity from my Department and from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries as to the efficacy of safety frames but figures are not available as to the number of these tractors to which frames have not been fitted.
