Representations were made in 1968 on behalf of the Cobh vocational education sub-committee to have civilian apprentices employed at the Naval Dockyard, Haulbowline. The reply was to the effect that this matter had already been fully and sympathetically considered and that the introduction of an apprenticeship scheme at the Dockyard would not be feasible. This is still the position.
