Vol. 263 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Galway Harbour Plans.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when the review of plans for the proposed major fishery harbour at the entrance to Lough Atalia at Galway Harbour will be completed; and if he will make a statement in the matter.

I expect the review to be completed in the very near future and I will then make a statement on the matter.

May I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if he remembers—it was just before he came into office—that a new fishery vessel was placed in Roundstone and was not taken out even once in the following year?

That is a separate question.

It is relevant to this issue. If we are going to waste public money on developing a new harbour in Galway Bay, it does not surprise me that Government expenditure is so high. There is no answer, because it cannot be answered.

I do not recall anybody saying that we will waste money building a major fishery harbour at Galway.

A new fishery vessel was put at Roundstone and was not taken out for 12 months afterwards.
