Vol. 263 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Company Law Review.

83.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his Department will undertake a review of existing company law with a view to proposing amendments which will afford greater protection to employees of firms that decide to go into liquidation.

Company law, including the aspect mentioned by the Deputy, is kept under continuous review by my Department. A special review is now proceeding in connection with proposals for harmonisation of the law in the members states of the European Economic Communities. Some of these proposals have a bearing on the protection of the interests of employees but it is not possible at this stage to say which of them will eventually be embodied in EEC directives.
