Vol. 263 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Contraceptives Legislation.

115.

asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the rejection by the High Court of the recent case on the law forbidding the importation for sale of contraceptives and the court's rider that the decision does not preclude the Oireachtas introducing an amending law, he intends to introduce such legislation.

The matter is under consideration by the Government.

could the Minister elaborate on the reply that the matter is under consideration by the Government? Do the Government intend to bring in amending legislation.

The Government are considering whether or not to bring in amending legislation.

Would the Minister not agree that the spokesman on his behalf on a previous occasion, Deputy B. Lenihan, was rather emphatic in saying "No"? In fact it went to a vote in the House. Is any legislation now contemplated?

I have told the House that the matter is under consideration.

Has the Minister any idea when we are likely to have the Government decision?

I could not say at the moment. A Leas-Cheann Comhairle, could I leave Question No. 116 until later as I have mislaid the file?

Yes. I am calling Question No. 117.
