Vol. 263 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extradition Agreements.

20.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the countries with which this country has extradition agreements; and the terms of these agreements.

The only extradition agreement to which the State has become a party is the multilateral European Convention on Extradition. The other parties to this convention to date are Denmark, Greece, Italy, Israel, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, The Netherlands, Austria, Liechtenstein, Cyprus and Finland.

Orders under section 8 (1) of the Extradition Act, 1965, have been made in respect of these countries and in accordance with the section each order embodies the terms of the agreement. These orders were laid before the House.

Would the operation of this agreement be in any way affected by the fact that one of the parties to that agreement is no longer democratic, namely, Greece?

Not really.

Would the Minister be satisfied with an order from a Greek court in view of the fact that the Greek regime is not democratic?

That is a separate question.

That is a separate question. As we stand in the international agreement, the answer is "yes".
