Vol. 263 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Incomes Statistics.

42.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons estimated to be in receipt at the present time of exclusively unearned income of £2,000 to £5,000 a year; the number in receipt of combined earned and unearned income of £2,000 to £5,000 a year; and the number in receipt of exclusively earned income of £2,000 to £5,000 a year.

Statistics relating to income tax are not compiled in such a manner as would enable the information sought by the Deputy to be given.

The only information available regarding the distribution of taxpayers over ranges of income relates to income varying from £3,000 a year to over £10,000 a year for sur-tax purposes. Tables relating to these ranges of income are contained in pages 164-175 of the annual report of the Revenue Commissioners for the year ended March 31st, 1971, copies of which are available in the library.
