Vol. 263 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widow's Pension Application.

24.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will grant a widow's pension to a person (name supplied) in Limerick in view of the fact that she had over 18 years' insurance contributions prior to her marriage; and, if not, why.

The claimant in this case, who claimed a contributory widow's pension on her own insurance, failed to satisfy the statutory contribution condition which requires a person to have either an average of at least 39 contributions paid or credited in the three or five years before her husband's death or a minimum yearly average of 24 contributions paid or credited for the prescribed period from the date of entry into insurance or 6th January, 1936, whichever is the later, up to and including the contribution year prior to the husband's death.

The claimant in question was employed in the prescribed period only from 1936 to 1942, the year of her marriage, and accordingly failed to satisfy the minimum average contribution condition.
