Vol. 263 No. 13

Written Answers. - Rehabilitated Holdings.

240.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) the number of holdings rehabilitated by the Land Commission prior to allotment (b) the nature of rehabilitation and (c) the cost per acre each year since 1968.

Just now approximate figures only are available and these may suffice for the Deputy's purpose.

From 1968 to 1972, inclusive, 240 holdings approximately were rehabilitated, the cost per acre varying from about £6 per acre in 1968 to about £10 per acre in 1972. The normal rehabilitation work carried out consisted of the application of lime and fertilisers according to the requirements of the soil.
