asked the Minister for Lands the total amount of land purchased by foreigners in Ireland each year for the past 12 years.

Particulars of relevant transactions recorded in the register kept by the Land Commission in accordance with the provision of the Finance Act, 1961, from 1st August, 1961, to 8th March, 1965, are as follows:—

25% Stamp Duty paid

Exempted from 25% Stamp Duty—industrial properties

Exempted from 25% Stamp Duty under recommendation of two Lay Commissioners of the Land Commission

In the period from the passing of the Land Act, 1965, to 31st March, 1972, apart from transactions arising solely from mortgage interests or involving areas not exceeding 5 acres and transfers from one non-citizen (individual or company) to another, the consent of the Land Commission, pursuant to section 45 of the Act, to the vesting of interests in land in non-qualified persons has been granted as follows:—
