Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Assistance.

13.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether any review of home assistance is under consideration.

My Department has carried out a wide ranging review of all the social assistance services, including home assistance, with a view to framing a new comprehensive code of social assistance which would replace all the existing State assistance schemes as well as home assistance.

The broad general lines of a programme of reorganisation and reform have been drawn up and the views of other Departments are now being sought in relation to it. I hope to be in a position to submit my proposals for the restructuring of the assistance services, including home assistance, to the Government at an early date.

Would this be a form of national assistance plan? Would it be operated nationally?

It would be a reform of the existing national services.

There would not be any regional variation.

I think the Deputy had better await the publication of the proposals.
