Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Handling of Personal Information.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that adequate safeguards exist in Government Departments with regard to the preservation of confidentiality in the handling of personal information; and if he will state what these safeguards are.

The answer to the first part of the question is "Yes". In regard to the second part general directions on the communication of official information are issued to each civil servant individually. These are supplemented, where necessary, by specific instructions such as those applying to certain staff in the Office of the Revenue Commissioners and the Central Statistics Office.
