Vol. 263 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

100.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of new houses costing more than £6,000 each and/or in excess of the prescribed square footage for normal grant purposes which were built in the last 12 month period for which figures are available; whether any grants, including grants for the installation of sanitary services, were paid in respect of them; and if houses in this category qualify for the rates remission applicable to new houses generally.

Information in regard to the number of grant-aided new houses costing more than £6,000 each is not available. My Department have no information on new houses which exceed the statutory maximum floor area for grant purposes. Where a new house does not qualify for a grant under the Housing Acts 1966 to 1970, it is ineligible for any other grant under such Acts or under the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act, 1962, and does not receive the benefit of rates remission applicable to grant-aided new houses.
