Vol. 264 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ambulance Siren System.

28.

asked the Minister for Health whether his Department was consulted before the new siren system was introduced to the ambulance service; whether this is in use in many areas; and whether it is possible to return to previous alarm systems.

Public authority ambulances have been equipped for some time with two-tone sirens for use as required when engaged on emergency calls. This has not been changed. A private ambulance service has provided an oscillating warning sound on two of its ambulances and presumably this is what the Deputy has noticed. It is not provided in ambulances other than these. I understand that the Minister for Local Government is considering an amendment of the regulations in relation to the use of sirens of this nature.
