Vol. 264 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disabled Persons in Government Employment.

55.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of disabled persons at present in Government employment; and the number for 1970 and 1971.

The figure required by the Deputy is 55. The corresponding figures for 1970 and 1971 are 35 and 42 respectively.

The Minister accepts that there is an increase. Is there any special ruling or guideline by the Government on this matter that there will be an increasing number of disabled persons employed in certain positions in Government Departments?

In 1967-68, an interdepartmental committee established by the Minister for Labour examined this question and made certain recommendations which in the main are being followed with the result that the Deputy can see of an increasing number.
