Vol. 264 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finance Act, 1969.

25.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the inclusion of full-time actors within the scope of the Finance Act, 1969, is under consideration; and whether he has held any consultation with Equity on the matter.

The answer to both parts of the question is in the negative.

Has the Minister any reason for this negative response to this question?

Yes. When the Bill was going through this House an amendment was proposed and rejected. The reasons for its rejection are still valid.

Will the Minister agree than an actor is every bit as important as somebody writing a book?

That was agreed in the course of the debate also.

OK. Why has this not been set down in the legislation?

I would refer the Deputy to the debate where he will see the reasons set out. It might be of assistance to him if I refer him to Volume 241, columns 1031 to 1044 of the Official Report.
