Vol. 264 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ACC Advances.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Agricultural Credit Corporation may make advances to non-farmers; and, if so, if he will state the amount of such advances made in the latest financial year of the Corporation.

The Agricultural Credit Corporation are empowered under the Agricultural Credit Acts to advance money for any purpose which, in their opinion will, or is likely to, increase the productivity of, or be otherwise of benefit to, agriculture or horticulture. I am informed by the corporation that advances are made only to persons already engaged in or having suitable experience of agriculture or horticulture and to firms engaged in associated processing industries. Information is not compiled on the amount of advances made to full-time farmers as distinct from other persons.
