Vol. 264 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recognition of Teaching Service.

63.

asked the Minister for Education whether teachers who work abroad before entering the teaching profession in this country are granted full recognition by his Department in respect of pay and promotion prospects; and whether any representations have been received from teachers on this matter.

Incremental credit is allowable to vocational teachers for suitable previous experience, subject to specified conditions. It is also open to vocational education committees when selecting teachers for promotion to make due allowance for the applicants' previous suitable experience.

In the case of secondary teachers credit is given for teaching service in certain newly developing countries, and in certain European countries.
