Vol. 264 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - European Free School Book Schemes.

64.

asked the Minister for Education the European countries which have schemes to provide free school books to all school-going children.

I am not in a position to supply this information as it is not available in publications of the international organisations concerned with education.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary make inquiries about this matter, which is rather important in the Irish context?

The publications I refer to are those of OECD and UNESCO and from what we can get by way of information in regard to other countries—for instance, France and Germany—our scheme here is far in advance of what is available there which is not detailed and not complete.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

I should like to give notice that I propose to raise the subject matter of Question No. 33 on the Adjournment.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
