Vol. 264 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Fine.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance why a person (name supplied) in County Cork has been asked to pay a fine of £7 under the customs regulations on goods which she declared at Dublin Airport on 2nd October 1972.

The lady in question entered the green channel in the Customs Hall at Dublin Airport, thereby declaring that she had no dutiable goods in excess of the permitted duty-free allowances. Her baggage was selected for examination and it was found to contain dutiable goods in excess of these allowances. Consequently, she rendered herself liable to prosecution under the Customs Acts but she was later given the option of paying a compromise penalty of £7 in lieu of legal proceedings.
