Vol. 264 No. 3

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

115.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, having regard to the Government's policies and aims for the establishment of industry in Ireland, he will state the number of applications for planning permission in respect of development in North County Dublin which have been rejected within the past 12 months; and where the proposed development envisages the employment of a considerable number of people, the action he has taken or proposes to take to reconcile the matters at issue between the applicants who are anxious to develop and provide employment and the planning authorities.

Under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, applications for planning permission are made to the Planning Authority in the first instance.

There is no information available in my Department as to the number of applications for planning permission made to the planning authority for North County Dublin relating to industrial development or otherwise within the last 12 months.

In dealing with any such applications made to them for planning permission the planning authority are restricted to considering the proper planning and development of the area, regard being had to the provisions of the development plan.

An appeal lies to me against any decision made by a planning authority. Before deciding any appeal every consideration is given, having regard to the proper planning and development of the area, to all the arguments made either for or against the proposal.
