Vol. 264 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Regional Development Inducements.

38.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the regional development inducements which exist for prospective employers in industry.

Certain of the incentives offered for the development of industry can be applied in such a way as to encourage development in particular regions or areas. The main inducements which can be so used to influence the regional location of industry are: non-repayable cash grants towards the cost of fixed assets, advance factories at industrial estates and other locations, grants towards reductions of factory rents, serviced sites, quick construction of factories, training grants and housing for workers.

The tax relief on exports profits which is significant in attracting new industry to Ireland and encouraging expansion of existing industry is available in all regions. Existing industry in all regions is also assisted by grants for re-equipment and modernisation.
