Vol. 264 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pedal Cyclist Prosecutions.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of prosecutions for the year 1971 brought against pedal cyclists for not having the required front and rear lights; and the number of traffic accidents investigated by the Garda Síochána involving pedal cyclists injured during the hours of darkness.

The Report of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána on crime for the year ended 30th September, 1971, gives particulars of the number of persons prosecuted during that year for breaches of the lighting regulations relating to pedal cycles.

Traffic accident statistics are not compiled by the Garda Síochána but I understand that a report of An Foras Forbartha, entitled "Road Accident Facts, 1971", contains statistics relating to pedal cyclists killed and injured during the year.

Copies of the reports I have referred to are available in the Library.
