Vol. 264 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - International Monetary Reform.

33.

asked the Minister for Finance if this country was represented at a recent meeting of the Committee of Twenty of the International Monetary Fund in Washington; and the progress made towards reform of the international monetary system.

I assume that the Deputy has in mind the meeting of the working group of deputy members of the Committee of Twenty which took place in Washington from 27th to 29th November. Ireland was represented at this meeting.

The parent committee and the working group have commenced only recently their task of examining the various aspects of international monetary reform and the whole matter is still in the early stages. The subject is extremely complex, and agreement on specific reform measures must, therefore, be expected to take a considerable time.
