Vol. 264 No. 6

Written Answers. - Free Travel Scheme.

194.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has considered issuing free travel cards to the wives of old age pensioners in receipt of the maximum rate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy is, no doubt, aware, all persons aged 70 years or over are already entitled to free travel facilities whether or not they are in receipt of pension. The wives aged under 70 of such persons are also entitled but only when accompanying their husbands. Extension of the scheme as suggested by the Deputy is not contemplated.
