Vol. 264 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Landing Rights Issue.

3.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any intimation from President Nixon regarding the landing rights issue since his recent meeting with him; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The matter still rests with the President of the United States and there is nothing that I would wish to add at present to the replies I gave in the Dáil on 26th October last.

Mr. O'Donnell

Is the Minister not prepared to give any further information at this stage? Is the Minister aware that there has been a considerable amount of Press publicity over the last few days to the effect that the December 31st deadline has been extended to February 18th? There have also been Press statements to the effect that a statement is about to be made. Has the deadline been extended?

As far as we are concerned, there is no deadline and no extension. The matter is with the President of the United States of America. All the representations in the matter have been made and a full case has been submitted.

Has the uncertainty surrounding all this had any adverse effect on traffic?

Not at all.

No problem.
