Vol. 264 No. 8

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

145.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of numerous complaints to Radio Telefís Éireann regarding poor reception of its transmission in the Nire Valley, County Waterford; and if he will request the authority to erect a transformer on Knockcasheen where a free site has been offered.

I am aware that this is one of a number of areas where television reception is not satisfactory at present. Improvement of television reception is primarily a matter for RTE. I understand that no plans have yet been made for dealing with the Nire Valley as RTE are concentrating on improving reception in the more populous areas first.

146.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the poor television reception in the areas of Cahir, Newcastle, Ardfinnan, Clogheen and Ballyporeen, County Tipperary; and if he will request the RTE Authority to have it improved.

I am aware that television reception in parts of this area is not satisfactory at present.

Improvement of television reception is primarily a matter for RTE. I understand that RTE intend to carry out a survey of the area in the next three months in order to determine what improvements are necessary and practicable.
