Vol. 265 No. 2

Social Welfare (Pay-Related Benefit) Bill, 1972: From the Seanad.

I suggest that this Bill be taken at the end of the business of the day. That is the usual procedure.

It involves only one amendment, a procedural one.

In that case we agree to have it taken now.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider an amendment from the Seanad.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:

SECTION 18.

In page 6, lines 12 and 13, subsection (2) deleted and the following subsection substituted:—

"(2) The Social Welfare Acts, 1952 to 1972, and this Act may be cited together as the Social Welfare Acts, 1952 to 1973."

This is purely a drafting amendment made necessary by the fact that the Bill, when enacted, will be a 1973 Act. Thus it could not be included in the collective citation, the Social Welfare Acts, 1952 to 1972, as proposed in subsection (2) of section 18 of the Bill. This subsection was deleted by the Seanad and a new collective citation "the Social Welfare Acts, 1952 to 1973" was constructed as in the new subsection (2).

This was an amendment which was technically necessary due to a change and I accepted it in the Seanad.

Question agreed to.

Amendment reported and agreed to.
