Vol. 265 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Withdrawal of Doctors From Immunisation Scheme.

28.

asked the Minister for Health the number of doctors who have withdrawn their services from the immunisation and vaccination scheme.

The vaccination and immunisation services are provided by the health boards through their public health staffs mainly. In some areas general medical practitioners are engaged on a sessional basis to augment the work of the public health staff.

According to information supplied to me by the health boards, some 20 general practitioners have declined to provide these services. I understand that they were not satisfied with the fee payable for sessions.

I have indicated to the Irish Medical Association and the Medical Union that I am prepared to arrange for a discussion on fees for sessional work of this kind should they so desire.

Is the Minister sure that 20 is all?

This is the figure supplied to me.
