Vol. 265 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for houses in the Dún Laoghaire and Dublin County Council areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am only too well aware of the serious and urgent need for houses in both areas. The Deputy may rest assured that every encouragement will be given by me to the housing authorities concerned, financially and otherwise, to participate fully in the Government's plans for an expansion of the house building programme.

The Minister has said there is a very serious housing situation here. Of the 25,000 houses he is promising us per year would he agree that we in Dún Laoghaire and Rathdown should receive a fair allocation of these houses? There is a need of somewhat in the region of 500 new housing units as a matter of urgency.

The Deputy is probably aware that there are 154 weekly tenancy houses at Ballybrack. The tenders have been approved for those and there are an additional 300 sites available in the area. The Deputy can be assured that there will be no delay in the Department when schemes come for attention

I am very pleased to hear that.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is intended to take in charge Allen Park Estate, Stillorgan, County Dublin.

This is a matter for the local authority concerned.
