Vol. 265 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pollution Report.

68.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has considered the report of the Inter-Departmental Committee on Pollution; if at this stage he is prepared to act on this report; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

When the inter-departmental working group's report on water pollution was published on 13th March, 1973, it was indicated that it was published without commitment to afford an opportunity to public and private interests and the general public to comment on its recommendations. In view of the importance of the subject, I think this was reasonable, and I do not propose that decisions should be taken on the recommendations made in the report until the comments received from the various interests concerned, including local authorities, have been considered.
