Vol. 265 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Jet.

112.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider assisting Aer Lingus by purchasing one of their surplus BAC 111 jets for the purposes of transporting parliamentary representatives overseas in the course of their official duties.

I do not consider that the Deputy's suggestion is practicable, if only for the reason that, as I understand, Aer Lingus have no surplus BAC 111 jet aircraft in their fleet.

In any case, they are very noisy aeroplanes.

It is also pertinent to observe that most Irish Parliamentary representatives when they go abroad go singly or in pairs and it would not appear to be a sensible act to purchase a 74-seater plane in order to convey persons singly or in pairs.
