Vol. 265 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dinish Island Industries.

126.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if the industries agreed to by the previous Government will now be established on Dinish Island.

The previous Government had not agreed to the establishment of any industries in Dinish Island, Castletownbere, County Cork and there is no firm proposal at present to establish an industry there.

Industrial sites are being developed on the island and will be available for leasing by my Department to any one who decides to set up a suitable industry there.

It is amazing how industries disappeared with the change of Government. There were three industries proposed for there.

The Deputy must be living in fantasy land. He will not get away with that.

There were three industries proposed there——

There was no proposal.

——and the local fishermen guaranteed to allow foreign fish in.

There was no proposal for the establishment of an industry in Castletownbere by the previous Government——

Nonsense.

——and the Deputy is trying to imply by his question that the previous Government had made arrangements to establish an industry there.

An agreement had been made with the local fishermen's co-operative.

The Deputy is not being truthful in his supplementaries.

Agreement had been made not only between the Government but also between the fishermen's co-operative and the foreign industrialist.

There was no proposal to establish an industry in Castletownbere by the previous Government. All the Deputy and his colleagues displayed was a complete lack of interest.

Can I take it that the Parliamentary Secretary is now going to produce new industries, which were not proposed, by waving a magic wand?

There was no proposal, but I will do the best I can.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary read his files? The arrangements were made.

The Deputy is living in a fantasy.

I have been misled and the House has been misled.

The Deputy is being deliberately untruthful.

The Parliamentary Secretary has twice—we ignored it the first time—said something that he should, I think, withdraw.

In reply to Deputy Colley, what I said is a statement of fact.

In the Parliamentary Secretary's opinion.

It is a statement of fact that Deputy Lemass's assertion is untrue.

I believe that should be withdrawn.

If it is against the rules of order, I will withdraw it, even though it is a statement of fact.

Is that a withdrawal?

That is what the Deputy can expect.
