Vol. 265 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service

134.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the urgent need for a telephone kiosk in the Donnybrook, Douglas area of mid-Cork; and, if so, how soon it will be provided.

The area in question is served by a kiosk at Shamrock Lawn which is not extensively used. Provision of an additional kiosk in the general area is not considered to be warranted at present. The matter will be reconsidered if demand for the existing facilities shows a significant increase.

May I add that I hope it will show such an increase and that it will be possible for me to reconsider the matter. I canvassed rather intensively in this area during the mid-Cork by-election and I came to appreciate the courtesy, charm and style of the people of Douglas. As far as I am concerned, the more easily they can communicate with the people of the rest of the country the better it will be for us all.
