Vol. 265 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Open Space.

105.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ensure that the area between Christ Church and the River Liffey, Dublin, is preserved as an open space.

This would be a matter for Dublin Corporation. I should state, however, that the area in question was acquired by the Corporation as a site for new civic offices. Acquisition was by means of a compulsory purchase order made by the Corporation and confirmed by the Minister for Local Government in 1964 after the holding of a public local inquiry. On the 27th July, 1972, planning permission was granted on appeal for the construction on the site of civic offices, council chamber, public concourse, shops and a bank.
