Vol. 265 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Reconstruction Grants.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the long delay in having a reconstruction grant paid to a person (name supplied) in County Waterford.

An application for a reconstruction grant, made in March, 1969, was rejected in July, 1969. A new application, received on 28th March, 1973, is with my Department's local inspector for investigation with a view to the allocation of a grant, if in order.

There has been no undue delay in this case.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the difficulties being experienced and the delays involved in having inspections undertaken for reconstruction grants in the Walkinstown area, County Dublin; and if he will arrange for an investigation into these problems as a matter of urgency.

I am aware that, due to an unprecedented increase in the volume of housing work in Dublin and elsewhere, unavoidable delays have occurred in having inspections carried out on reconstruction grant applications in the Dublin area. An additional inspector has, however, been assigned to the Dublin area and arrangements have been made to intensify inspections throughout the country in the coming month. A competition for the recruitment of additional inspectors is being arranged. These arrangements should clear the current temporary backlog of housing inspections.
