Vol. 265 No. 8

Written Answers. - Workers Wages and Conditions.

84.

asked the Taoiseach the weekly hours of work and wages of forestry workers, road workers and farm workers as at 7th May, 1973, and the appropriate hourly rates; and the average bonus earnings per hour for forestry workers.

The following statement gives for each country for 7th May, 1973 (a) the basic weekly time rates of wages paid to forestry workers and the hourly equivalent based on 41 working hours per week together with the average bonus earnings per hour at 30th March, 1973; (b) the minimum weekly rates payable to adult male agricultural workers under the Agricultural Wages (Minimum Rates) Order, 1973 and the hourly equivalent based on 50 working hours per week and (c) the weekly rates of wages—excluding service pay—paid by county councils to road labourers. Working hours for road labourers follow a seasonal pattern, which varies somewhat from county to county, and the particulars of hours worked at specific times of the year are not available to the Central Statistics Office. The average number of hours per year as operative at 1st April, 1972—the latest figures available—have, however, been inserted.
